Residents of Meath and Kildare North have until Tuesday next to ensure their names are on the electoral registers if they wish to vote in the by-elections.
Making an order for the by-elections to be held on Friday, March 11th, the Minister for the Environment, Mr Roche, said the polls would open at 7 a.m. and remain open until 10 p.m. to facilitate early-morning commuters and those who live outside the constituencies during the week.
To stand for election to the Dáil, a candidate must be a citizen of Ireland and at least 21 years of age by polling day. Candidates may nominate themselves or be nominated by a person who is registered as an elector in the constituency concerned.
A non-party candidate must have his/her nomination paper assented to by 30 electors registered in the constituency to which they are seeking election.
