SIPTU has recommended that nurses in the Western Health Board area defer any escalation of their industrial action after successful talks with health managers.
The union says its recommendation is subject to continuing progress on the implementation of national agreements, the retrospective payment of overtime rates, consultation with the union on personnel changes and the conversion of long-term temporary staff to permanent staff. However, a work to rule involving 300 psychiatric nurses and healthcare workers in Mayo will continue for the moment. SIPTU began balloting 1,500 nurses in the Western Health Board area earlier this month. While the ballot had not been completed, nurses in Roscommon and some areas of Galway had voted in favour of industrial action.
