The daughter of Ms Jean McConville, who was abducted and killed by the IRA in 1972, has been contacted by a man who claims to have been involved in the abduction. Ms Helen McKendry said she believed the call was genuine and that the family was now another step closer to recovering her mother's body.
The man, who contacted Ms McKendry on Saturday, said he had helped to kidnap Ms McConville from her home in Divis Flats and take her to an IRA "safe house" for interrogation. Ms McKendry said the man was able to name others involved in the abduction.
It is understood the IRA contacted the McKendry family via an intermediary before Christmas to assure members that Ms McConville's disappearance would be resolved soon.
