Seville - The international movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies yesterday appealed to governments to outlaw children's participation in war. Delegates meeting in Seville, called on all Red Cross and Red Crescent bodies to work toward setting of a minimum age of 18 for military recruitment. International conventions currently fix the lower limit at 15 years.
The problem of child-soldiers has practically disappeared in Latin America where it was prevalent, except for Colombia where it persists. Today it is notably found in countries such as Uganda, the Congo and Mozambique.
