Moscow - At least 1,000 Russians filed into the mausoleum holding Vladimir Lenin yesterday to mark his birthday and denounced suggestions that his body should be moved elsewhere and buried.
The group, made up mainly of elderly people and led by the Communist Party chief, Mr Gennady Zyuganov, moved slowly through Red Square and placed bouquets outside the building before going inside.
Three men stood in front of the mausoleum holding up a large red banner reading "Hands off Lenin!" Mr Zyuganov said, "The decision to place Lenin here was made by our ancestors. Not one or two people but a (Communist Party) congress." Lenin died in 1924.
