Cameroon will play in the final of the Confederations Cup against France on Sunday despite the death of midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe, a FIFA official said.
"I can simply confirm that to you. I believe it [to play the final] was decided during the night," he said.
Foe collapsed and died in the semi-final against Colombia last night, won 1-0 by Cameroon.
The 28-year-old is believed to have suffered an aneurysm during the game against Columbia in the Confederations Cup, and attempts to resuscitate him failed.
The Lyon player - a Manchester City hero after netting the last goal ever to be scored at their former Maine Road home - was hoping to seal a permanent move to Manchester after a successful season on loan.
"It is devastating news. It is difficult to comprehend," former City chairman David Bernstein told Five Live. "He settled into our club very, very quickly and was a popular member of team.
"He was a very gentle person and a very gentle man. He was a real professional on and off the pitch and he was a great credit to his club and country".
During last summer's Commonwealth Games in Manchester, Bernstein shared a hospitality box with Foe to watch the athletics at the City of Manchester Stadium - which will be the club's new home from this season.
"He was intelligent, articulate, fun, relaxed - just great to be with," added Bernstein.
