A £900,000 campaign to promote better understanding between the Traveller community and settled people was launched yesterday by the Minister of State at the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation, Mr Chris Flood.

The campaign will be run by a committee made up of representatives of four Traveller organisations. It will deal with such issues as accommodation, discrimination, social exclusion and equal status. Residents' associations and the Garda are among the groups which the campaign will attempt to influence.
