Campaigners against the construction of the Corrib gas field will stage a protest in Dublin today.

Dublin Shell to Sea is holding a rally in O'Connell Street, opposite the GPO, at 2pm.

Landowners in Co Mayo and activists from all over the country oppose the laying of a gas pipeline and construction of a terminal at Erris.

Caoimhe Kerins, of Dublin Shell to Sea, said it was not too late for people to join the cause. "Shell have yet to start building the inland refinery," she said.

"It's not too late to make them process the gas at sea, as is done at Kinsale. Community opposition to the inland refinery is as strong as ever.

"They haven't been given permission by the EPA to operate the refinery, yet they seem determined to steamroll ahead with the project despite massive local opposition."

On Friday hundreds of campaigners from around Ireland are expected to travel to Erris for a major sit-in at the gates of Shell's proposed Bellanaboy refinery.

It follows a number of blockades in recent months which have held up work at the site.
