A car bomb has killed at least 50 people and wounded 70 more in northern Iraq today.
The attack took place near the office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). It happened in Makhmour, the capital of the autonomous region of Kurdistan.
The head of police in Makhmour said he expected the death toll to rise. "The bomb hit an area with several government offices," he said.
Other security sources said that the KDP were having a local meeting at the time of the attack.
