Naval divers have recovered a car which went off a ferry in Cork harbour ten months ago in an incident in which a Polish man drowned.
Divers from the Naval Base at Haulbowline were carrying out a training exercise near the Cross River Ferry this morning when they found the car.
Divers located the VW Polo some 150 metres downstream of the slipway on the Carrigaloe side near Cobh and 40 metres into the channel in about 11 metres of water.
Krystian Mielnik (28) died when the car in which he was travelling as a passenger left the ferry midway at around 6.40pm on March 9th.
The car, which an inquest heard was driven by another Pole, Sebastian Loniawski, left the ferry, pushed through a barrier and ramp and into the water midway between Glenbrook and Carrigaloe.
Both Mr Mielnik and Mr Loniawski ended up in the water and Mr Loniawski was rescued by a local boatman, John Geary but Mr Mielnik was lost and his body was never found.
