CLARE COUNTY Council needs to be extra careful when deciding on granting planning permission for one-off homes in the Burren with the advent of climate change, a leading climatologist said yesterday.
Prof John Sweeney of NUI Maynooth said winters in the Burren would be wetter, resulting in water tables being higher.
The council “will have to be even more careful in granting planning permission to septic-tank-based housing . . . and vulnerable ground waters need to be protected”, he said, in a talk on the impact of climate change.
