Former Limerick captain Ciaran Carey has quit ahead of their All-Ireland hurling qualifier against Kerry in Tralee on Saturday.

The 31-year old, a 13 year veteran and three time Allstar, walked out of yesterday's training session in Kilmallock after it emerged that he would not be figuring in the starting line up for Tralee.

He started that he would be in touch with Limerick's county selectors in the near future to explain his position, but at present he believed himself to be 'surplus to requirements'.
