Seven people have died after an Azerbaijani cargo plane crashed into farmland two minutes after take-off from the capital of northwest China's Xinjiang region.
Rescuers said no one on the ground was hurt after the Russian-made Il-76 crashed and burst into flames into forest and farmland about six miles from the airport in Urumqi.
The fuselage was destroyed and there was no chance the crew could have survived, Xinhua news agency said. Officials on the ground had yet to confirm the fate of the crew whom they identified as Russians. The plane's cargo was also unknown.
The plane was en route to Azerbaijan's capital, Baku.
The Il-76, the workhorse of the cargo fleets of Russia and other ex-Soviet states, has suffered a string of accidents over the past few years.
