A case alleging unfair dismissal taken against former Taoiseach Dr Garret FitzGerald and the Department of the Taoiseach by his former personal assistant has been settled.
The case taken by Sharon Kelly was settled before a hearing scheduled at the Employment Appeals Tribunal in Dublin today.
The terms were not disclosed.
The scheduled proceedings were delayed while the parties engaged in private negotiations.
When the hearing opened, Conor Power BL for Dr FitzGerald told tribunal chairman Peter J O’Leary the time had proved “fruitful” and that the parties were pleased to say all issues had been resolved “satisfactorily between them”.
In those circumstances, on agreed terms, the claim could in due course be struck out.
The tribunal heard the terms were to be implemented within six weeks. Mr O’Leary set a date for September 1st to confirm the settlement had been implemented.
Issues between the claimant and Dr FitzGerald had been settled but it had not been formally agreed that the department should be removed from the claim, the hearing was told.
Mr O’Leary said he wanted to know whether both respondents would still be listed in the matter if it did not settle and later came back for hearing.
A representative for Ms Kelly said this would “probably be the case”.
Speaking briefly to reporters following the hearing, Dr FitzGerald said he was “pleased it has been satisfactorily settled”. He said he could not discuss the matter further.
Ms Kelly did not speak to reporters.
