The case of Neil Latimer, one of the so-called UDR Four, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of a Catholic man in Armagh, has been referred to the Criminal Case Review Commission.
The Birmingham-based body investigates alleged miscarriages of justice. It was set up to decide whether cases should go to the Court of Appeal.
Latimer was found guilty in 1983 of shooting of Adrian Carroll at his Abbey Street home. The other three UDR men had their convictions overturned by the court of appeal.
Latimer's solicitor, Mr Joe Rice, said he understands the matter is being given priority treatment by the commission. "It is clearly a miscarriage of justice. It's not a question of `if' but `when'," he said.
