A truck driver charged with dangerous driving, causing the death of five people, yesterday had his trial transferred from Wicklow to Dublin in order to ensure he would have a fair trial.

Mr Victor Teggart (23), of Markethill Road, Armagh, was the driver of a truck which collided with a school minibus near Arklow, Co Wicklow, on September 15th last.

In an affidavit, his solicitor, Mr James O'Donohoe, said there would be a difficulty in obtaining a jury which would approach the matter with objectivity because "a significant number of persons in the county would have known those killed or injured or be acquainted with their family or friends".

Judge Raymond Groarke said a risk of injustice did arise, and he transferred the trial to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
