Casinos to remain open

When Macau reverts to China tomorrow, the moment will cause hardly a stir in the tiny gambling haven's 10 casinos. For punters and casino operators alike, it will be business as usual.

"Of course we'll be open, we're in the gambling business. We are open 24 hours of the day," snapped a press officer at Sociedade de Turismo e Diversoes de Macau, the syndicate that controls Macau's casino franchise. "What has the handover got to do with our casinos?"

For Mr Kenny Lo, a Hong Kong gambler who travels frequently to Macau, these are reassuring words. "I might even get lucky", Mr Lo said, as he slipped another coin into a slot machine.
