Havana- As President Fidel Castro enjoyed his 75th birthday in Venezuela on Monday, Cuban state media paid lyrical tribute to the "Maximum Leader" while supporters cut cakes, sang songs and held marches in his honour.
"We Cubans wake up happy today," wrote Susana Lee for the ruling Communist Party's daily Granma, in one of numerous articles extolling the veteran communist leader who was born 1926, in the eastern Cuban hamlet of Biran.
"Everyone's party!" added trade union daily Trabajadores (Workers) on its front page, beneath a huge photo of a beaming Castro.
