Havana - President Fidel Castro opened Cuba's party congress yesterday on a renewed crusade of resistance to pressure from the United States coupled with modest internal change.
The opening day of the party's fifth congress was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Che Guevara's death in Bolivia at the hands of CIA-trained special forces. Commemorations will last for nine days until Guevara's recently returned remains are buried in a special mausoleum in Santa Clara after their 160-mile journey from Havana through towns and villages.
