A feud between disputing families has led to three Catholic families being forced from their homes in south Belfast, according to Prof Monica McWilliams of the Women's Coalition.
The Ulster Defence Association has been blamed for expelling the families, although the organisation's political wing, the Ulster Political Research Group, has denied the claims.
Last night one of the families secured an injunction in the High Court in Belfast preventing newspapers from naming them or showing photos of their home.
Prof McWilliams said the dispute initially started as a quarrel among families but had deteriorated into a feud with a "sectarian overlay".
Since the Easter weekend, three Catholic families were ordered from their homes by the UDA, according to local political representatives. Local UUP MP the Rev Martin Smyth said the intimidation was the "tactic of a barbaric society". Belfast's Sinn Féin Lord Mayor, Mr Alex Maskey, and a local SDLP councillor, Mr Peter O'Reilly, also condemned the intimidation.
