Loyalists are believed to have been responsible for an arson attack on a Catholic secondary school in east Belfast early yesterday. A store room was destroyed and the science block suffered smoke and water damage in the fire at Our Lady's and St Patrick's College in Kingsway Gardens, off the Gilnahirk Road.
Around £200,000 worth of damage was caused in the blaze. The school principal, Father Patrick McKenna, said the fire would not stop the college's cross community work. The attack was condemned by Ulster Unionist councillor Mr Jim Rodgers, who said Catholics and Protestants in the area had a good relationship.
