Family members of a stabbing victim left a courtroom in tears yesterday as footage was shown of a teenager being chased to his death.
A Central Criminal Court jury was shown the CCTV footage in the trial of another teenager, who is charged with murdering the 19-year-old.
David Byrne was stabbed to death after being chased into a dead end at Emmet Court apartment complex in Inchicore, Dublin, on the night of March 19th, 2011.
Marcus Kirwan (19), of Cooley Road, Drimnagh, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr Byrne, who had lived at Davitt House, also in Drimnagh.
Garda Ciarán Byrne of Kevin Street Garda station showed the jury about 45 minutes of CCTV footage from that night, captured by a number of cameras in Drimnagh and Inchicore.
Some members of Mr Byrne’s family cried and left the court as a person was shown being chased by other people near St John Bosco Youth Centre in Drimnagh.
The trial has already heard that Mr Byrne died of multiple stab wounds later that night. He sustained nine stab wounds in all. Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan has told the jury that the CCTV evidence will continue on Monday.
