O'Neill is in the final year of his current three-year contract but has revealed that discussions are imminent.

He had been advised to leave Scottish football by former Rangers manager Dick Advocaat, who is to step down from his current Ibrox role of director of football in November.

O'Neill said: "The comments were reported back to me. I intend to hang around for a while.
