A challenge to plans to build an £18.5 million dual carriageway through the Glen of the Downs in Co Wicklow is expected to open in the High Court this morning. It was due to open yesterday before Mr Justice Kearns but was deferred when it was known that another case before him would not be settled by early afternoon.
Yesterday, the judge continued an order restraining trespass on disputed lands at Glen of the Downs on the undertaking of Wicklow County Council not to fell any trees in the area pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. Environmentalists have been camped in the area since May 1997.
