UEFA today confirmed the eight Champions League matches postponed after the terrorist attacks on the United States will go ahead as scheduled this week, despite the military action in Afghanistan.

The matches - which include Manchester United's trip to Greece to face Olympiakos and Celtic's clash with Rosenborg - will be played on Wednesday.

UEFA spokesman Mike Lee said: "We can confirm that the eight re-scheduled UEFA Champions League matches scheduled for this week go ahead as planned.

"We are of course aware of the current security issues following the events of last night in Afghanistan and continue to monitor the situation closely.
