The three candidates for the chancellorship of the National University of Ireland will address a meeting of Convocation in Theatre Q, UCD (Belfield) at 8 p.m. today. They are the former Taoiseach, Dr Garret FitzGerald, a former ASTI president, Mr Pierce Purcell, and Dr Patrick Jones.
Fears have been expressed that there will be a very small turn-out for the election on October 15th, with only a few hundred applications for votes having so far being received out of a potential constituency of about 170,000 graduates. Graduates wishing to vote in the election must apply for voting papers to the Clerk of Convocation, 49 Merrion Square, Dublin 2, by October 3rd, giving their full name, address, degree and year of graduation.
