The Government this evening said it would implement the key recommendations made in the Dalton Report which examined the operation of Bord na gCon which runs the greyhound industry.

The independent 'Report on Certain Matters Affecting Bord na gCon' was prepared by Tim Dalton, former Secretary General of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

One central recommendation was increasing the size of the Board from seven to nine members.

The Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism John O'Donoghue said he would consider whether to establish a Doping Control Committee as an agency independent of Bord na gCon. This was recommended in the Dalton report.

It also suggested that legislation governing the greyhound industry be reviewed.

The report was sought by the Minister following the sacking of the Bord na gCon Chief Executive, Aidan Tynan, last January.

Mr Tynan had claimed in an a letter that findings of the use of EPO on two greyhounds had not been published - contrary to established policy. Mr Tynan also felt that he had been sacked for bringing this information to the attention of the Minister.
