From Athy to Amsterdam via Paris 1919, Jack Lukeman (right) has come out of the shadow of Jacques Brel, Scott Walker and Frank Sinatra to carve out his own niche as Ireland's most popular avant-cabaret star. From his debut album, Wax, which featured interpretations of Jacques Brel songs, to his current CD, Metropolis Blue, featuring self-penned tunes such as Ode To Ed Wood, Jack L's star has been on the rise and tonight, the 26-year-old with the thunderous voice plays his biggest show yet, a special pre-Valentine's Day concert at the Point for all young Irish lovers who probably first met at a Jack L gig. Lukeman has always been a bit of a Black Romantic, so it's appropriate that he's providing the musical lead-up to this year's love-fest. Watch out for flying roses, swishing capes and smoochy songs, accompanied by a full orchestra for added romance.
