A charge of reckless endangerment normally arises in circumstances such as the ramming of a Garda car, resulting in an accident and injury to the occupants of the car.
It is rarer for the charge to arise in a situation where a person has been directly assaulted.
However, it could arise where a person suffered from injuries that arose both directly from the assault and from other causes related to the assault, but not related directly.
The key element in this charge is that there was risk to the life or safety of the injured person in the actions of the accused person, and the person charged was aware, or should have been aware, of the risk.
