Charlton manager Alan Curbishley has signed England Under-21 defender Luke Young from Spurs, announcing he felt like he was signing four players in one.

Young will join Charlton on their Scandinavian tour today after signing from Tottenham yesterday in a £4 million sterling deal.

It ended a month-long chase for Addicks boss Curbishley, who pursued the chase for Young because of his versatility.

"Luke can play at right-back, left-back and in the centre of defence, plus he can play in midfield, so I have gone for a young, versatile player,"said Curbishley. "He is a good player and a hungry player, who needs to establish himself.

"I think his progress was a bit blocked at Spurs, although he played more than 80 games for them. I think he sees this move as a bit of achallenge.

"We have been after him for the last four weeks and I am delighted that our chairman Richard Murray has managed to get the deal done.

Young (22) has agreed a four-year contract at The Valley. He is Charlton's third majorsigning of the summer, after Jason Euell (£4.75 million) and Shaun Bartlett (£2 million).
