China's top sports organisation has denied accusations it spent $15.8 million that was earmarked for the Olympics on apartments for staff and investment
China's National Audit Office said the General Administration of Sports, part of the capital's 2008 Olympics organising committee, had misused the money.
About $13 million from a special Games fund was used to build apartments for staff and the rest was invested in companies, the report said.
"The General Administration of Sports and the China Olympics Committee have a close relationship. We did not appropriate or misuse the special fund," the press officer for the General Administration of Sports insisted.
Reports of commercial corruption abound in China as part of a nationwide blame-and-shame campaign.
