The British Armed Forces Minister, Mr Doug Henderson, has decided against a fresh inquiry into the Chinook helicopter crash on the Mull of Kintyre in 1994.
He said the Ministry of Defence had reviewed "extremely carefully" evidence compiled by a retired RAF test pilot and a software engineer which cast doubt on a RAF investigation into the crash, but had decided there was "no new evidence" to suggest the Chinook had suffered from technical problems.
The Chinook Mk II crashed in dense fog, killing 25 antiterrorist personnel on board and four RAF crew members. The RAF inquiry found the pilots guilty of gross negligence.
