A Christian Brother has been acquitted of indecently assaulting a teenage boy in his Dublin home in 1989.

The jury of six men and six women deliberated for almost four hours at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court before returning a majority verdict of not guilty on the charge that he indecently assaulted the then teenager between August 1st, 1987 and August 31st, 1989 at his home.

The jury failed to reach a verdict on a second charge that the 62-year-old accused indecently assaulted the teenager between August 3rd, 1985 and August 14th, 1986 on a hill near Fanore, Co Clare during a holiday for disadvantaged boys.

It was the fifth day of the trial.

Judge Tony Hunt thanked the six men and six women of the jury for its care and attention to the case and adjourned the outstanding matter for mention later after the Director of Public Prosecutions has reviewed the file.
