Dublin residents affected by the recent floods are to receive €1,000 from their local Catholic parish church.
A spokesman for the Church said around €400,000 has been made available by Cardinal Desmond Connell with the aim of addressing the immediate needs of the residents.
Fr Liam Rigney of North William Street parish said: "I was invited to a meeting on Monday night in Shamrock Terrace where the residents made it clear their main needs were food and clothing".
"There are a lot of people doing good work in the area but the Corporation will take time, we needed to respond immediately," he said.
Most of the residents have received their cheque, but some have yet to be told about the offer because they are staying with relatives or in guesthouses.
About 405 households are affected in four parishes: North William Street, North Wall, East Wall and Ringsend. The money was provided from one of the Dublin diocesan funds.
