London - Within weeks of the defeat of Nazi Germany, the British prime minister, Winston Churchill, instructed his war cabinet to draw up a contingency plan for a massive attack against the Red Army leading to the "elimination of Russia", it has emerged.

New light on Churchill's concern about Stalin's ambitions and aggressive intentions for the Soviet system is shed in a top-secret file headed Russia: Threat to Western Civilisation, recently released at the Public Record Office.
