WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS on the release of possessions of the murdered woman Margaret “Meg” Walsh have been handed in to Waterford District Court.

Judge David Kennedy accepted them yesterday from Insp Pádraig Dunne, on behalf of the DPP; from solicitor Finola Cronin, representing Ms Walsh’s husband John O’Brien; and from Jim Walsh, representing Ms Walsh’s daughter, Sasha Keating.

At the District Court in Waterford last October, Mr O’Brien applied to have his wife’s possessions returned to him.

The items, currently in the possession of the Garda, include his wife’s Bank of Ireland pass card, a black purse, her Mitsubishi car and a ring.

Ms Keating (19) has opposed the application on the grounds that gardaí require them for a continuing investigation into her mother’s murder.

Judge Kennedy agreed to deliver a decision on the matter at Waterford District Court on May 25th.

Ms Walsh’s body was found floating in the river Suir in October 2006, two weeks after she had disappeared. Her death was attributed to blunt force trauma to the head.

Mr O’Brien (42) had caught her kissing another man at their home after they had been out drinking, it emerged during her murder trial at the Central Criminal Court in May 2008, which heard up to 120 witness accounts. A Bus Éireann driver, Mr O’Brien was found not guilty of murdering his wife.
