A former member of the Irish Aviation Authority was charged yesterday with possession of £80,000 worth of cocaine for supply.

Mr Thomas Patrick O'Shaughnessy (38), Finian Park, Shannon, Co Clare, was accused of having the drug at a hotel in Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin, on Tuesday. Dublin district court heard that after he was charged yesterday, he replied: "nothing to say".

Det Garda Paul Doran, of the Garda National Drugs Unit, said the charges involved the seizure of 1 kg of cocaine with an estimated value of £80,000.

Judge James Scally remanded Mr O'Shaughnessy in custody for a week to Cloverhill District Court with consent to his own bail of £8,000 with an independent surety of £16,000.
