Gardai are investigating the reported rape of a teenage girl on the outskirts of Ennis, Co Clare, last weekend. According to gardai, the girl, in her late teens, was raped while hitchhiking from Kilrush to Ennis early on Sunday morning.
It is understood the girl left the west Co Clare resort of Kilkee at 12.30 a.m. after a row with her boyfriend, hitching a lift eight miles to the town of Kilrush. There, the girl, who according to gardai is not from Co Clare, was picked up by a red car, possibly a Peugeot 205, containing two men.
According to gardai, the incident occurred two miles from Ennis. Her assailants are described as being in their mid-20s and having "country-type accents".
