Algiers - Clashes between protesters and security forces flared yesterday in Algeria's Kabylie region, scene of almost daily rioting against the military-backed authorities since April, residents said.
The disturbances in the main city of Bejaia followed a day of violence in Algiers on Thursday when an anti-government march by ethnic minority Berbers turned into confrontation with security forces.
"People here are very angry about the way Thursday's demonstration was put down," one resident said by telephone.
