Washington - The White House has announced that President Clinton is to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest US civilian honour to 15 people at a ceremony on August 9th.
Among those to receive the award are:
Retired Gen Wesley Clark, who helped negotiate the Dayton peace accords to end the Bosnian war;
Mr John Kenneth Galbraith, an economist;

Rev Jesse Jackson, a civil rights leader;
Mr George McGovern, former US senator from South Dakota and the 1972 Democratic presidential candidate;
Mr Simon Wiesenthal, a concentration camp survivor who played a key role in hunting down and capturing Nazi war criminals.
