A private nursing home is to close, forcing 13 elderly patients to find alternative accommodation. The directors of the Windwood Lodge Nursing Home in Dundalk, Co Louth, say the home cannot afford to remain open and will close at the end of the month with the loss of 30 jobs.
The home is losing £6,000 a month and the decision to close was made after two planning applications to expand the home were refused by Dundalk Urban District Council. The proprietor, Ms Kay Conroy, said the development included a biocycle treatment plant to deal with sewage.
The patients affected are aged between 72 and 93 and their relatives have been asked to make alternative arrangements.
