Rural revellers will be targeted in a Europe-wide drink-driving blitz tonight.
Designated drivers at nightclubs in Fermoy, Castlebar, Naas, Ennis and Letterkenny will be breathalysed by volunteers promoting responsible motoring.
Noel Brett, of the Road Safety Authority (RSA), said anyone drinking alcohol should look for an alternative mode of transport.
"Just one drink impairs driving," he said.
"Let's make sure that this weekend, and every weekend, is free from drink-driving and free from collisions on our roads."
The initiative — called EU Night Without Accident (Enwa) — will take place in another 180 nightclubs in 20 European countries at the same time.
Volunteers will encourage revellers entering nightclubs to identify a designated driver who, when leaving the nightclub, will offer to be breathalysed.
Last year 64 young drivers at three nightclubs in Cork took part in the scheme, with 89 per cent of those safe to drive.
The RSA has also warned motorists to be extra vigilant on the roads and watch for falling debris during high winds across the country tomorrow.
Met Éireann said gale-force southerly winds and gusts of up to 110kph are expected in the north-western and northern counties.
