Drogheda had its biggest parade to date and the sunshine ensured a crowd of more than 10,000. The grand marshal, local historian Ms Peggy Reilly, led the 50 floats, which included groups from large housing estates in the town.
The Drogheda Samba band took part in the Drogheda and Dublin parades. Some 25 miles up the road, Dundalk scored a success with its first St Patrick's Day parade in four years.
