Washington - The US Defence Secretary, Mr William Cohen, will make an unprecedented visit to Vietnam next week for talks on establishing routine military-to-military contacts with its one-time enemy, the Pentagon said yesterday.
It would be the first visit by a US defence secretary to Hanoi and the first to Vietnam since the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. The Pentagon said Mr Cohen was visiting Vietnam as part of an Asian tour that also will take him to Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.
