People are packing into one of the country's biggest comedy festivals this weekend to escape the misery of the seemingly endless summer rain

Some 50 acts will perform scores of shows at the Bud Light Revue in Dublin including well-known names Tommy Tiernan, Des Bishop and Colin Murphy.

Although tonight's opening stand-up shows were completely sold out a few tickets remain for Saturday and Sunday's gigs in four fully-seated marquees in Iveagh Gardens.

Australian Steve Hughes, who was a huge hit at last year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Britain's popular live sketch show We Are Klang, are among those who will be raising the spirits.

Also appearing are Simon Munnery, Guy Pratt, Jim Jeffries and Emo Philips, considered by many to be the greatest joke writer in the world.

As well as the big names, organisers are promising some of the most exciting new talent on the comedy circuit. The hilarious new comedy troupe The Headwreckers, the Edinburgh preview of Young Gifted and Greenand the hit show from Andrew Stanley and Damien Clark, I Dare Ya' all feature.

Gates will open at 2pm on both Saturday and Sunday giving ticket-holders plenty of time to enjoy the kaleidoscopic array of performance artists, side-shows, performing clowns, jugglers and stiltwalkers.
