The Parades Commission last night rejected an application by Portadown Orangemen to walk the Garvaghy Road on November 14th - Remembrance Sunday. The Commission also announced restrictions on another Orange demonstration due to take place in Portadown on Saturday, November 13th.
The commission said that in the absence of any local accommodation between Orangemen and residents the Commission could not see how a parade could proceed down the Garvaghy Road without having serious impact on community relations in Portadown and across the North.
The Commission also called on "both parties to the dispute in Portadown to make strenuous efforts to find a way forward to secure the local accommodation sought by the people of Portadown".
