Washington - The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously gave its stamp of approval yesterday to Mr Robert Mueller to head the troubled Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The committee's 10 Democrats and nine Republicans sent the nomination to the full Senate, which was expected to confirm President Bush's choice before leaving this week for its month-long summer recess.
During two days of testimony before the committee earlier this week, Mr Mueller (56), a former decorated Marine officer turned long-time federal prosecutor, vowed to restore public confidence in the nation's principal crime-fighting agency.
