A STUDENT WHO was knocked down by boisterous soccer fans in a Dublin nightspot has been left with permanent scars on her right hand, a judge has been told.
Jim Sharkey, counsel for Catherine McBride, told the Circuit Civil Court yesterday that following an Irish win against Saudi Arabia in June 2002, she was celebrating in the tightly packed Flannery’s Bar when the accident happened.
Ms McBride (27), Tolka Road, Drumcondra, Dublin, had sued Richmond Properties Ireland Ltd, trading as Flannery’s Bar and Restaurant, Lower Camden Street, Dublin.
She told the court she had noticed spillage and broken glass lying on the floor of the pub for about half an hour before she had been knocked down. She had not seen any members of staff cleaning.
Mr Justice Matthew Deery awarded Ms McBride €15,000 damages but reduced the award by 25 per cent on the grounds that had she reported the spillage and glass to a staff, it would most likely have been cleared up.
