LONDON - The family of a murdered black teenager, Stephen Lawrence, were last night planning to lodge a formal complaint against the police as they alleged officers had been racist and negligent in their investigation of his stabbing.
The family's solicitor, Mr Imran Khan, said a formal complaint was being lodged with the Police Complaints Authority against senior officers involved in the initial investigation.
"If the PCA said there were officers who were negligent in their duties then we would proceed with civil action against them," he said after an inquest jury's unanimous verdict yesterday that the teenager had been unlawfully killed.
