The Irish South and West Fishermen's Organisation has expressed its deep concern over what it claims is the continued lack of Government action in relation to incidents at sea involving fishing vessels.

In a statement, the organisation said it was not sufficient for the Government to say that it had no authority to act outside the 12-mile limit in relation to reported incidents.

The Department of the Marine and Natural Resources has said that it has asked the Attorney General's office for a definitive ruling on available powers and the possibility of updating legislation.
